    Students taking Medical Seminars please note:
    Space is limited (10 max). These courses familiarize students with the language of the health care profession and medical abbreviations. **Medical Terminology is an intense course. Students should be prepared to spend at least five hours of study per week.

    Students taking Business and/or Computer Seminars please note:
    Space is limited (10 max). You will learn in a hands-on environment. Custom courses can be arranged for an individual or group from one company.

  • Introductory to Medical Terminology (MED01)
  • A study of the fundamentals of medical terminology. Students learn the principles of how medical words are formed, including the basic rules of building medical words, identifying suffixes, prefixes, and combining forms related to the structures and functions of the associated systems of the body.

  • Medical Terminology II (MED02)
  • Prerequisite: MED01 or equivalent
    Students study human anatomy and physiology of selected body systems, common disorders of each system, the procedures used to diagnose those disorders, and the usual treatment.

  • Medical Terminology III (MED03)
  • Prerequisite: MED02 or equivalent
    Students continue their study of the human anatomy and physiology of selected body systems, common disorders, procedures and treatments.

  • Introduction to Medical Transcription (MTR04)
  • Prerequisite: Typing 35 nwpm, medical terminology, and word processing skills.
    The transformation of words dictated onto tape into document form is both a skill and an art. The transcriptionist must coordinate eyes, ears, hands, and feet to produce professional looking letters, memos, and reports in proper format. Students will transcribe actual dictation, applying the knowledge learned.

  • MOM (Computerized Medical Office Manager) (MOM05)
  • Prerequisite: Students must be computer-literate.
    Hands-on computer training in MOM - a complete medical office management system. Its function is the storage, retrieval, and reporting of the data related to the processing of patients at a medical practice. This is the software that is widely used in medical offices, clinics, and hospitals throughout Nova Scotia.

  • Introductory Accounting (ACC01)
  • A study of the fundamentals of the accounting cycle for a service industry. This course is designed to strengthen the student’s understanding of the basic accounting principles by applying the concepts using hands-on exercises, i.e. record/post transaction in the general journal, prepare a trial balance, calculate/record adjusting entries, prepare financial statements, and prepare/ record closing entries.

  • Intermediate Accounting (ACC02)
  • Prerequisite: ACC01 or equivalent
    This course would build on the topics covered in Introductory Accounting. Topics covered will be record/post transactions related to merchandising company using a general and special journals, calculate/record adjusting entries, prepare detailed financial statements, prepared/record closing entries, intro to accounts receivable/account payable subledgers, petty cash and bank reconciliation, and payroll.

    This course is an integrated accounting software package designed to provide practical applications of accounting principles and procedures using the General Module.

  • Punctuation Bootcamp (PBC01)
  • The average person is probably unfamiliar with most rules governing the use of commas and semicolons. It is certainly possible for a writer who has a logical mind to punctuate fairly well without knowing the rules-but is fairly well good enough. Join me this summer, and I will not only teach you the rules but also provide you with realistic documents such as memos, letters, email messages, and short reports to edit.

  • Records Management (RMT01)
  • Filing is an important method of organizing and storing records in business offices. Let us teach you the 12 basic rules that tell you how names of people, businesses, and organizations are arranged through a series of instructions, exercises, and quizzes.

  • Students will learn how to file and organize their documents into folders. They will identify what a path is and what the difference is between: a folder vs. file, an internal drive vs. a network drive.

  • Students will learn to identify the Word environment and how to use the basic formatting tools, i.e. setting defaults, paragraph spacing, spell check, bullets, numbering, and text enhancements.  Students will also learn how to design a newsletter using tools like styles, columns, drop caps, pictures, WordArt, and tables with equations.

  • Students will learn to identify the Word environment and how to use the basic formatting tools, i.e. show/hide, setting defaults, paragraph spacing, move/copy, format painter, undo/redo, spell check, F4, bullets, numbering, and text enhancements.

    Learn how to connect worksheets together by learning how to group worksheets, use drill an entry, and create a 3-D reference formula. These features can be used within a workbook connecting worksheets together or can be applied to connecting multiple workbooks together.
